Consumer complaints about COVID-19 fraud pass 200,000

Consumer complaints to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) related to the coronavirus exceeded 200,000 on Thursday, Sept. 17, with a total of more than $140 million in fraud losses. This release summarizes actions by 15 federal agencies to stop fraud related to Covid-19 and offers consumer tips to report fraud and protect themselves against scams.

Illinois PIRG applauds Gov. Pritzker’s announced energy principles

Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced a set of eight principles today to guide his administration’s approach to energy and utility legislation going forward. The principles include multiple policies Illinois PIRG has advocated for, including ending “formula rates” for electric utilities, ending similar infrastructure bill surcharges for gas utilities, and ending the practice of utilities recovering charitable contributions from customers bills.

New study indicates toxic chemicals used in take-out food packaging from popular chains

A new study that tested for PFAS in food containers from six restaurant chains found that, out of 29 unique samples, 14 tested above the screening level for fluorine, suggesting PFAS treatment.
