Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office confirmed on Monday that it plans to appoint Ann McCabe to serve on the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC), the state’s utility regulator. McCabe previously served a term on the ICC, ending in 2017.

In response, Illinois PIRG Director Abe Scarr made the following statement:

“We applaud Gov. Pritzker for appointing Ann McCabe to the Illinois Commerce Commission. With her previous experience on the Commission, leadership role at the Regulatory Assistance Project, and more, Commissioner McCabe brings a depth of experience to her new role.

From implementing sweeping energy legislation to considering the future of gas utility infrastructure given the climate imperative to decarbonize our economy, we’re in a critical time for regulating utilities in Illinois.

With Commissioner McCabe on the ICC, Illinois is better positioned to meet these challenges and chart a new path forward.”
