Health Care For All

What's New

On April 3, 2008, Senate Amendment 7 to HB 315 passed in the Illinois State Senate.  This bill ensures access to health insurance for Illinois residents who are diagnosed with cancer through state screening programs for as long as they have the disease.

Illinois PIRG supports the passage of house bills 311 and 6297. HB 311 provides universal health care for all Illinois residents.  HB 6297 ensures access to health care for Illinois residents living at up to 400% of the poverty level and would provide hundreds of thousands of Illinois families with access to health insurance for the first time.

Overview

Illinois PIRG is committed to ensuring accessible and affordable health care for all Illinois residents.  We believe that any health care reform plan must include accessible coverage for all Illinois residents, regardless of income or health status.

To that end, not only are we working to make the cost of health care more affordable, we are also working to increase government oversight of the insurance industry.

Illinois PIRG is working to change Illinois health care policy by:

• Expanding access to medical assistance;

• Preventing insurance companies from denying or canceling coverage for people just because they get sick;

• Increasing consumer protections and government oversight.

Illinois PIRG is committed to ensuring accessible and affordable health care for all Illinois residents.
